Your whole you, part 7 of 7 – relationship with something greater
Apr 24, 2020
Why am I doing this series again? To support you. I want to encourage you to live your best life – making more choices every day that support you rather than bring you down. I’d love for you to make more educated decisions about your choices in life. And, I’d like to be your cheerleader around tuning in to your body and learning more about what it needs as an individual. Want someone to hold your hand? I’m your hand holder. I think it’s important for you to have someone to lean on/ a resource in your life process as much as you need.
Sure, supplements can provide added support, but it is the choices that you make day in and day out in life that make you resilient and strong. Are you tending to all aspects of you and your environment? You are a mental/emotional/spiritual being in a physical body; take some time to reflect on all aspects of you.
When you attend to these foundational lifestyle factors, your body is more likely to feel stronger, healthier, and ready to overcome whatever it may need to!
- Nourishment, hydration
- Movement
- Sleep
- Clean living (your environment)
- Relationship with yourself
- Relationship with others
- Relationship with something
Relationship with something greater
It doesn’t matter what your ‘something greater’ is: religion, spirituality, humanity, a large community, nature, or Earth herself; when you feel part of something large, your nervous system finds comfort and safety.
That comfort and safety help you to be closer to parasympathetic nervous system, more in rest & digest mode where your immune, digestion, absorption, detoxification, elimination, and reproduction systems work best.
Try this…
As always, don’t take my word for it. Just like last time, test this out… Take a moment right now to check in to see how you feel: how tense you are, your energy level, your ability to think clearly. Rate it on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the most tense/ distressed). Then, connect to something greater. Some ideas are:
Join a meditation group and commit to being an active participant
- Take a walk in nature and appreciate all aspects, the sights, sounds, smells, feel of the air on your skin…
- Take steps towards being more active in a nonprofit for political, social, or environmental change
- Sign up to volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity or your chosen service nonprofit
- What else works for you??
After each interaction, reassess how you’re feeling. Feel better? Healthier? Intangibly warmer? Play with this some more to learn how much how you connect and with what affects your experience, before and after.
For the next few days (and beyond, I hope),
Connect tangibly with…
your choice of something greater:
nature, a community, spirituality, humanity as a whole…
something that makes you feel like you have a small place within a huge one…
